As of every year and with an ever-growing curiosity, Brussels Design Week (formerly Brussels Design September) promotes the interaction between roughly a hundred Belgian and international artists and creators with amateurs and connoisseurs in the field of design. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 20th edition under its new identity.
BDW is a fundamentally multifaceted festival that encourages the greater numbers to cross the line and encounter the new facets of today's design industry by coming in contact with the artists and craftsmen and women in their action (i.e. Arts&Crafts, Jewelry-making, Ceramics, Tapestry Fablabs, Upcycling...etc). Amongst all, the public can choose to see exhibitions, open workshops, happenings, conferences, hands-on workshops, name it...we do it. We will miss no opportunity to encourage exchange and enrichment of knowledge or sensitivity.
Once again, we want to reinforce the image of Brussels as an attractive and dynamic capital: we will highlight the innovation of our young designers through various events related to Design, in order to enhance the commercial attractiveness of the city.
These past few years, Brussels has incontestably become a city of Design, thanks to the talent and the ingeniousness of our designers. Design from Brussels has started to gain quite a reputation and we want to contribute to this in our own way by organising this event. Design September always wanted to connect with the city and represent its various exaltations and diversities. The importance and influence of the event are shaped more and more as design in its most various forms takes an increasingly important place in the daily life of Brussels : urban furniture, installations, lights...
Our designers’ innovations find their place in the urban landscape. This has contributed in a positive way to the city’s reputation and to its economic and tourist activity. The city of Brussels needs events that put creativity and innovation at the forefront. Design Week, alongside the Brussels-Capital Region, the City of Brussels and many institutional and private partners, is proud to contribute to it.
In 2026, Brussels Design September celebrates its 20th edition and becomes Brussels Design Week. From 24 September to 4 October, the festival takes over galleries, studios, cultural institutions, shops, hotels and heritage buildings across the Brussels Region.
For the first time, the festival has a central venue: the Hub, an anchor point for the event, open to professionals, students and the general public. It hosts exhibitions, talks and gatherings throughout the festival.
The programme is built around six formats. Exhibitions present Belgian and international design in galleries and unexpected venues across the city. Group shows each bring together several dozen designers around a shared curatorial vision. Schools, museums and fablabs present student work, retrospectives and research projects. For one weekend, Inside the Ateliers opens the doors of Brussels studios and fabrication spaces to the public. The Commerce Design Awards, now in their 14th edition, recognise collaborations between shop owners and designers. Finally, the talks explore current issues in design, from practices and materials to transmission.
Twenty years after its creation, the event pursues the same ambition: supporting Brussels designers, promoting collaborations between creators and businesses, and affirming Brussels as a European crossroads for design.
