TNM is an organization dedicated to supporting design, low-tech solutions, and innovation that foster employment, resilience, and the common good. Through "Utopies vagabondes" (Wandering Utopias), TNM offers the public a chance to explore an extensive body of creative work, experimentation, and research focused on resilience, self-reliance, and reconnecting with local areas—all applied to the realms of nomadic living, low-tech solutions, and material reuse. In its 2,000+ m² space in Ixelles, TNM presents an inspiring and enchanting showcase of its latest projects, reflecting an approach that blends creativity, the circular economy, social innovation, and artisanal craftsmanship.

“As visual artists, we are engaged in questioning and reinterpreting the familiar world around us” - say Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen, whose shared practice blends art, design, and architecture into a singular language. Where does this distinctive approach come from? What comes first: form or colour? And what is it like to work together as two genuine visionaries?

What started as an experiment with old scaffolding found in a garden evolved into light objects. The discarded materials were reused and given a new purpose. Each lamp preserves the recognizable form and materiality of the scaffolding while being adapted for interior spaces. These lamps are an ongoing exploration of the balance between industrial and domestic, public and private, exterior and interior. Besides creating smaller objects, I have also evolved into creating larger, scenographic pieces. My most recent project involves the creation of a "scaffolding" christmas tree, for the new Jam Hotel in Ghent (designed by Atelier Lionel Jadot). The entrance required a creative christmas tree. I created a tree made of second-hand scaffolding poles, in different sizes and in a configuration similar to a typical, domestic christmas tree. Now , after the holidays, the scaffolding poles have been re-organised into a new composition, creating a new lighting object that also has scenographic value in the space. The future holds different ideas, with the same basic concept. New ideas encompass, for example, a scaffolding bench for outdoor scenes, with both my typical lighting concept but also a seating possibility. One of many potential ideas, that I would also love to perfect for the Brussels Design Week.

For Brussels Design Week 2026, A2D Architects is opening its office space—a renovated warehouse in Molenbeek—as the venue for a group exhibition featuring six designers and design studios. Within this characterful setting, different visions, materials and design practices come together.
The exhibition stems from a shared reflection on the future of design and the way we engage with resources. The common thread connecting the six participants is their personal and conscious approach to materials, production and circularity.
Through their respective practices, they explore the possibilities of existing, reused, recycled and bio-based materials, and consider how design can contribute to a more circular and responsible use of our resources.
Featuring work by Rover Project, Duplex, Finkr, Margo Steel, De Staat and Mathieu Paradis, the exhibition brings together a range of perspectives. A2D Architects acts as host, creating space for dialogue and inspiration, where creativity, experimentation and a critical approach to materials can lead to new ways of designing, producing and rethinking.

In a world that rarely slows down, Airplane Mode celebrates the value of making by hand. Bringing together the work of designers and artists from diverse practices, the exhibition explores creation as a deliberate act of time, attention, and presence. Like switching a phone to airplane mode, each creative process becomes a temporary disconnection from constant noise and productivity—a space where ideas can unfold at their own rhythm. Through unique pieces and limited editions, the exhibition highlights craftsmanship, experimentation, and the beauty of thoughtful making. Airplane Mode is an invitation to pause, reconnect with materiality, and discover objects shaped not by speed, but by care.

AKKO CAFÉ is a Japanese tea house and specialty coffee shop located in the former Irsi chocolate factory in Brussels.
The project is set within a remarkable heritage building, whose façade has been carefully restored, revealing its gilded Art Deco frieze, Portoro marble frames, and blue stone façade. The interior design creates a dialogue between Japanese aesthetics and Brussels architecture, bridging tradition and modernity. Wood elements, the continuity between interior and exterior, and several references to Japanese architecture — such as the wooden framing of the bay window and the small Japanese-inspired garden — shape a warm and calming atmosphere, inviting visitors to slow down and enjoy the moment. The space also features a curated selection of Japanese artisanal objects centered around coffee and tea culture.
To express the idea of a bright and welcoming space, Jane, the founder, drew inspiration from her mother’s name, Akiko. The associated kanji 晶 (“aki”) evokes light coming together and shining brightly.

Alain Gilles’ path to design was anything but conventional. With a background in political science and a career in finance, his transition into the world of design in 2007 was driven by a passion for creativity, a desire to shape the objects that surround us, and the idea of leaving something behind. This unexpected journey allowed him to bring a unique perspective to furniture and product design, one rooted in analytical thinking, but also in intuition and emotion. His practice has since developed across furniture, lighting and objects, and through collaborations with some of the leading international names in contemporary design
For Alain Gilles, design is a deeply human discipline. His work is characterized by a harmonious balance between form and function, where every curve, line, and material serves a purpose. He believes that furniture should not only be beautiful but also evoke emotion, tell a story, and create a connection with its users. Hens his attention to what he calls the “readability” of his pieces. When talking about his work he often mentions the notion of “simplexity”, pieces that are easy to understand at first glance, yet reveal deeper layers of meaning upon closer inspection. More recently he referred to some of his work as “minimal radical” pieces, monolithic pieces that are both iconic and accessible.
With Almost 20, Alain Gilles deliberately steps away from the retrospective format. Rather than revisiting iconic or historical pieces from the past two decades, he has selected works mostly developed during the last three years. The exhibition consequently presents his practice as a work in progress, revealing recent continuities as well as emerging directions with pieces that continue to investigate, refine and challenge its own vocabulary. This is not a retrospective but a forward-looking celebration.

Our proposal focuses on the intersection of social engagement, circularity, and design. For this edition, we propose the following activities: Exhibition of Social Design: We wish to exhibit a curated selection of objects resulting from our past social and associative projects. Bank DayBed + Terrazzo Table + A big Column Open Workshop (Bizet): We would like to register our workshop address in Bizet to figure in the thematic routes organized in the city. Opening our doors will allow the public and professionals to discover our creative environment and processes firsthand. Conferences & Conviviality around Reuse: To further enrich the visitor experience, we plan to organize a communal meal and a series of short conferences. These will focus on the themes of réemploi (reuse) and sustainable design, fostering discussions among designers, artisans, and the general public.

Textile designer Amandine Brun Sauvant explores materiality at the intersection of craftsmanship and rigorous research, placing the chemistry of natural dyeing at the core of her practice. By harnessing the reactions of mordants such as alum and iron within fibres, she transforms chemical processes into a contemporary visual language. Instead of merely coating the surface, her colours are structured from within, capturing the memory of artisanal gestures through lines of tension. Deeply rooted in her territory, she uses local resources and botanical by-products to envision colour as a living, sustainable ecosystem.

At first glance, Bull is an archetypal, almost banal table. The addition of a fifth leg — hovering, slightly off-centre — quietly disturbs that certainty. What appears to be a minimal gesture shifts perception. Without compromising its function, it prompts a re-reading of the object. It introduces a subtle dissonance, and suggests. The tabletop and four legs are executed in the same material and tone. The fifth leg repeats the geometry while contrasting in wood species and hue. All legs appear as circular cut-outs in the surface. What becomes visible depends on how one looks — and how long.

HAAR is a tactile, slightly surreal object depicting a large, downward-hanging head. A head that withdraws, bows — or simply waits to be washed. The work invites touch: to comb, to stroke, to braid. HAAR is made of hackled flax, a material that uncannily resembles human hair. For Sylvie Van de Walle (Waarschoot, 1978), it has been linked since childhood to the blonde hair from the Timotei commercial. It reveals how perception shifts: once seen, flax can no longer be separated from hair. Her work moves between art and design — and quietly shifts.

Ariane van Dievoet’s design practice uncovers the stories hidden in discarded materials. Through traditional craft and digital innovation, she transforms construction and production waste into unique pieces. She draws inspiration from the nature of each material, embracing their imperfections. After launching her Brooklyn studio in 2014, she returned to Brussels in 2018, where she advances her circular approach while teaching sustainable design at CAD. In 2023, she co-founded Augusta, a Brussels gallery showcasing her work and that of designers committed to circular design.

L’Atelier la Chapelle highlights the work of Irina Jane (@irina.jane.studio), a resident artist whose practice is woven at the crossroads of ceramics, design, and installation art. Starting from a simple element — the chain — Irina Jane develops a singular formal vocabulary. Shaped one by one, the ceramic links are declined into a multiplicity of scales and uses: jewelry, curtains, swings, and suspended installations — so many forms where the material seems to defy its own limits. In her work, chains embody duality: strength and fragility, order and collapse, weight and lightness, functional object and sculpture. Oscillating between what restrains and what releases, between attachment and rupture, they introduce a real movement, a living tremor, a tension. For Irina Jane, ceramics — an irreversible material that cracks, shrinks, resists, or yields — becomes a medium of connection.

The exhibition also brings together Alexia de Ville (GOYET), for her contemporary tapestry work, and Warre Everaert (Atelier WE).

The studio also takes part in the open-door days on September 25 and 26.

On the occasion of the Designers Open Doors, L’Atelier la Chapelle is opening its doors, inviting the public to step into a space entirely dedicated to ceramics—a hub for research, experimentation, and creation.

Nestled in the heart of Brussels, the studio is first and foremost a shared workspace designed for artists. It provides an environment where the ceramic arts (or arts du feu) can be freely explored, in a spirit of knowledge-sharing, innovation, and collaboration.

Our approach is built on a constant dialogue between ancestral techniques and contemporary tools. Convinced that innovation is as much fueled by heritage as it is by experimentation, we encourage artists to push the boundaries of their practice without ever losing touch with tradition.

A true celebration of the expressive potential of clay and the enduring value of craftsmanship.

ALU Casted over Orbeez is a series of sculptural objects that originated from an in-depth material study exploring the expressive potential of recycled aluminum. The aluminum used is made entirely from reclaimed material, which is remelted and given a second life through a handcrafted and experimental making process. During the casting process, molten aluminum is poured into a sand mold that has been pre-filled with Orbeez. These are small polymer-based hydrogel beads that expand significantly when exposed to water. These seemingly playful and fragile elements act as a temporary structural framework within the mold. As the molten aluminum flows around and between the beads, it creates an unpredictable interplay of cavities, curves, and organic transitions. The result is a unique, tactile surface that feels both fluid and porous, exploring the tension between control and chance, and between industrial materiality and organic form. Each object bears the traces of its making process, making every piece inherently unique. With ALU Casted over Orbeez, an everyday material is elevated into a material experiment and a visual narrative about transformation, circularity, and the aesthetics of the making process.

The renewed Atomium shop is more than just a store, it is an extension of the iconic experience of this Brussels landmark.
The design focuses on creating a pleasant and efficient shopping experience, with functionality and visitor experience at its core. Through a thorough analysis of visitor flows, a layout was developed that ensures a natural circulation, featuring a strategically positioned checkout and open cabinet wall.
This results in a clear, inviting space that encourages exploration.
The shop interior is modular and flexible, allowing it to adapt easily to changing collections or temporary campaigns. The use of color and materials aligns with the aesthetic of the Atomium, with a green cabinet wall serving as a visual guide for visitors. This wall leads them through the store while simultaneously marking the separation with the exhibition area.
With attention to detail and respect for the existing structure, this renewed shop reflects the identity of the monument and offers visitors a unique retail experience that enhances the overall experience of this iconic location.

As part of Brussels Design Week and the “Inside the Ateliers” tour, AUXAU ARCHITECTURE will open the doors of its studio to the public on Friday, September 25, and Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This year also marks the studio’s 15th anniversary. Fifteen years of projects, research, and collaborations that we invite you to explore through a selection of works and content presented right here in our workspace.

This open house will also be an opportunity to discover our new website, completely redesigned to offer a fresh perspective on the many projects developed by AUXAU over the years, while providing a glimpse into those to come.

BABA MANIFESTO: The Manifesto of Babaism is an exhibition by artist and designer Jacopo Koning, presenting the art movement he founded: Babaism. Babaism is an art movement that celebrates mixed-media absurdist art of the post-COVID era. Inspired by its name, just as the Dadaists responded to the absurdity of the world following events such as the First World War, the Babaists draw inspiration from the absurdity of contemporary collective traumas, including the overstimulation caused by technology. Babaism is also rooted in the idea that history continually repeats itself. This is reflected in Koning's practice through the combination of historical and contemporary techniques, such as screen printing and etching, creating a dialogue between past and present. Through distorted faces, playful colors, symbolic elements, and multimedia works, Koning captures identity in constant flux within a world of memes, overstimulation, and endless scrolling; inviting viewers to embrace imperfection and find beauty within today's chaos. After presenting the first BABA MANIFESTO exhibition in Florence, Jacopo Koning now brings the exhibition to Belgium for its debut at ALTO GALLERIA, marking their second collaboration since 2024.

Monkey Balling is where CMF meets play, where basketball culture, bold materials, retro textures, broken ceramics, stone fragments, and pop-culture references turn into sustainable design. Pre-loved, salvaged, and recycled materials being rebuilt into new stories with a new rhythm. We don’t talk sustainability, we practice it, piece by piece. Every material has a past and every object deserves a second chance. We source reclaimed stone, recycled ceramics, broken tiles, chipped mirrors, leftover wood, and “lost” fragments people usually throw away. If it’s solid, textured, raw, or storied, it has potential. If it carries history, even better. Forgotten materials make the best foundations for upcycled design.

TINE LONCIN opens her home and workplace in the heart of Brussels, on the top floor of a former textile factory that she transformed in 1997. Born and raised in Brussels, the city is a constant backdrop to her design practice: layered, pragmatic, vibrant and never quite finished. Her approach is consistent: she does not start from a predetermined form or style, but allows the design to emerge from space, use, material and context. A world of living and making in which clarity gains meaning and where every object and every space speaks for itself.

For Brussels Design Week, Tine Loncin opens the space where her interior architecture and furniture designs have taken shape over the years. Together with designer and curator LOU VAN HENDE, she selects designers and artists who live and work in Brussels today. Their works are temporarily integrated into the existing living and working environment.
The selected works introduce an organic, tactile and more intuitive dimension into the space. This is reflected in forms, natural materials and tactility, but also through works in which not everything is predetermined and space is left for what emerges during the process. This creates a temporary interplay between different ways of making and designing, within a living and working environment shaped over the years.

From the living area, the space continues onto the rooftop terrace, furnished with outdoor furniture designed by Tine Loncin. Here, the Brussels skyline unfolds, the city that connects them.

This floor lamp was originally an IKEA lamp that lived in my home for 20 years. It was taken apart and rebuilt in my own way, while keeping the electrical system intact.The main idea is to transform an object I grew up with. Protrusions were added using bubble wrap sourced from discarded scraps. The bubble wrap was wrapped around a metal structure and then covered with plaster.

At the base of Brussels’ Blue Tower on Avenue Louise, BLEU introduces a new kind of all-day address to the city. Positioned between café, workspace and urban refuge, the project is shaped around transition, from morning coffee to lunch, from informal meetings to quiet pauses between appointments.

This public discussion will explore what a productive site like BO–RD can bring to Brussels. The project to transform BO–RD is still very much ongoing – and will likely remain so, since embracing openness and adaptability is central to the approach. However, now is a good time to take a step back, reflect on what has been done so far, and consider where we want to go next. Drawing on images and references, the discussion between the BMA and Rotor will address the different facets of the project and its implications for Rotor, productive areas in Brussels, and the future of the 'circular economy'.

The project was shaped through workshops, discussions with Rotor and the people already active on site, and a regular presence at BORD to better understand its daily rhythms, dynamics and needs. It is based on a series of targeted interventions that improve the site’s current functioning by working with existing structures rather than adding new buildings.
Three principles have guided the project from the start: BEFORE, valuing what is already there; SYSTEM, developing spatial and constructive principles that can adapt over time; and LEAVE, allowing room for appropriation, changing uses and the unexpected.
This guided visit explores BORD’s renovation and transformation through a walk across the site and its buildings.

BO–RD is a 14,000m² industrial site on the edge of Brussels, dedicated to reuse, making and experimentation – initiated and operated by RotorDC. It brings together a heterogeneous mix of spaces, activities and users, somewhere between a salvage yard, workshops and storage spaces, offices, meeting, event spaces and a wild garden.

RotorDC – Lightning Studio : RotorDC is a cooperative that organises the reuse of construction materials. We dismantle, process and sell salvaged building components, with a focus on finishing materials such as hardware, doors, flooring, furniture and lighting fixtures.
For the open studio day our in-house lighting reconditioning workshop will be open to visitors. Here, salvaged lamps are inspected and reconditioned so they can be used again, adapted where needed to meet contemporary electrical requirements. We also develop new lighting designs using off-cuts and other materials from our storage.

Floriana Da Silva : Visual artist, engraver and stone carver, Floriana Da Silva has developed a practice based on two forms of engraving: printmaking—etching or woodcut—and stone carving, which gives rise to artistic works, signs or funerary engravings alike. While their techniques and uses differ, these two practices share the same gesture: that of carving, inscribing, and leaving a mark. Through these materials, she explores memory, heritage, and the layers of time, bringing to light intimate and family narratives, absences, abandoned territories, and migratory journeys. Engraving thus becomes a means of revealing what endures, caught between memory and oblivion.

Tristan Gielen : Tristan Gielen (furniture designer / woodworker) develops each project using reclaimed materials and a strong ecological vision. With his background in architecture as a starting point, his design practice is primarily guided by the possibilities and character of the materials themselves.

Ines Thora : Ines Thora (°1996, Asse, Belgium) is a Brussels-based visual artist working primarily in painting and installation. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from LUCA School of Arts (2015–2018) and studied Cultural Studies at KU Leuven (2019–2020). Her practice explores memory, fragility, materiality and the relationship between body and material, often incorporating found textiles, bed linen, tablecloths, thread and other tactile materials into large-scale or intimate tiny abstract works.
Her work has been presented in Belgium and internationally, including exhibitions in Brussels, Antwerp, Berlin and Amsterdam. Her work is currently also presented at Abby Museum in Kortrijk.

Rotor asbl/vzw : Rotor is a Brussels based non-profit organization that is interested in material flows in industry and construction, with a particular focus on our relationship to resources, waste and reuse. This has led to a large variety of projects in the fields of research, consultancy, interior and scenography design, exhibition curation and education. In 2013, the association ventured into the reclamation and sale of used building elements, which in 2016 led to the creation of the cooperative company RotorDC (for ‘Deconstruction’).

Charel Pycke : Charel’s work explores how patterns and ornamentation function within an architectural context. Starting with the basic form of the triangle, he spent years developing geometric compositions, after which architectural influences increasingly came into play. Through his paintings and sculptures, he questions the often-underestimated role of decoration within the art world.

Rosa De Coster : Rosa De Coster is a sculptor with a background in graphic arts. She studied at KASK in Ghent, and at the Academy of fine Arts in Vienna. In her artistic practice she combines sculpture, furniture design, drawing, and model building. Her sculptures evoke spaces of different scales, constructed from flat surfaces that serve as carriers for drawing and painting. Visually, her work draws on references including folk-art, early Renaissance painting, murals in Italian restaurants, Belgian interbellum design, architectural drawing, Portuguese majolica tiles, Brussels facades and her grandmother's kitchen.

BO–RD is a 14,000m² industrial site on the edge of Brussels, dedicated to reuse, making and experimentation – initiated and operated by RotorDC. It brings together a heterogeneous mix of spaces, activities and users, somewhere between a salvage yard, workshops and storage spaces, offices, meeting, event spaces and a wild garden.

The project was shaped through workshops, discussions with Rotor and the people already active on site, and a regular presence at BORD to better understand its daily rhythms, dynamics and needs. It is based on a series of targeted interventions that improve the site’s current functioning by working with existing structures rather than adding new buildings. Three principles have guided the project from the start: BEFORE, valuing what is already there; SYSTEM, developing spatial and constructive principles that can adapt over time; and LEAVE, allowing room for appropriation, changing uses and the unexpected. This guided visit explores BORD’s renovation and transformation through a walk across the site and its buildings.

Moderated by the BMA, this public debate will explore what a productive site like BO–RD can bring to Brussels. As and becomes increasingly scarce and expensive, how can productive activities, small businesses, makers and circular practices continue to find a place in the city? What strategies can help maintain these activities in Brussels, and what could the industrial zoning of the future look like? The discussion will bring together policymakers, public administrations, urban practitioners, cooperators, entrepreneurs and the Rotor teams to question the role of productive sites in the city, and the conditions needed for them to thrive. Join us at the Door Pavilion, specially reconfigured for the occasion.

Articule is a small coffee roastery based in Brussels. Started in my parents’ garage in 2023 by selecting and roasting coffee with care. Today I roast from my own atelier at BO–RD. I select coffees by digging into their story, the terroir and the people who work for it. Most of these coffees arrive by sail and are grown by farmers who commit to regenerative practices.
Groove Me (if you can) is a solar underground house music collective. Based in Brussels, five resident DJs tour bars and other venues of the city. Always friends surrounding, we welcome more and more curious dancers to mend in our close-knit gatherings. Expect beats that groove, harmonies that smile and the impromptu deeper-dive into an electronic music abyss.

BS Galleria, a private gallery specializing in Brazilian collectible design and modernist furniture, opens its doors to the public for the first time during Brussels Design Week. The exhibition presents an exclusive Belgian preview of new works by Brazilian artist Patricia Faragone, offering local audiences the opportunity to discover the collection before its official presentation the following week at FORMÆ's Les Rendez-vous de la Matière in Paris. Blurring the boundaries between art, design and craftsmanship, Faragone's glass sculptures, lighting pieces and textile works explore memory, material transformation and the poetry of everyday objects. Presented within the intimate setting of the private gallery in Ixelles, the exhibition also celebrates BS Galleria's arrival in Brussels and its commitment to fostering dialogue between Brazilian and European creative communities through collectible design.

Altogether a design installation, art performance and immersive social experiment, Cheek to Cheek gives the audience a sneak peak into an alternative scenario of a non-productive convivial urban space to cultivate our curiosity, critical thinking, collective imagination and cooperative dynamics. Tweaking the Speculative Design methods, from futuristic to desirable present realities, with the inspiration from The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, we question how we should redesign our neighborhoods, friendships, tables and spare time in the context of the Paris Agreement. The main piece of the installation is what seems to be an open kitchen. It suggests the audience to get closer, take the initiative of chopping a vegetable, take collective ownership to make it work, and look behind the scene, as a larger metaphor of civic engagement in society. Through the basic need that is eating, we get to reflect on how to regain collective knowledge, agency and the joy of coming together to feed our body and soul.

Driven by a love for instinctive and intuitive creative processes, and material explorations. The exhibition Circular design Today explores the relationship between artistry and craft.

Since 2020, Circularium has been an innovation hub bringing together players in social innovation and circular production. For its sixth anniversary, and on the occasion of Brussels Design Week, Circularium throws its doors wide open from Friday October 2 to Sunday October 4.
On the programme: talks with the site's social organisations and makers, guided tours, the opening of the Circular Design exhibition, a DJ set, a flea market, a fair, and several other

Cityfab 1, a public fablab supported by citydev.brussels and i-CITY, is a space dedicated to digital fabrication. Short for “fabrication laboratory,” this fablab provides anyone, regardless of their level of expertise, with access to the tools and knowledge needed to bring projects to life using computer-controlled machines. During Brussels Design Week 2026, cityfab 1 is opening its doors for a tour of the facility and an opportunity to explore the production possibilities offered by our machine fleet, as well as our training programs and workshops.

“The Ocean Floor” is an immersive textile installation by Cocono, rooted in the brand’s Belgian textile heritage and long-standing family connection to rug manufacturing. Through layered textures, organic forms, and shifting tones inspired by underwater landscapes, the project explores the quiet beauty of the sea floor and the emotional atmosphere beneath the surface. Presented through the Seaworld rug collection, the installation reflects Cocono’s ongoing fascination with tactile design, movement, and natural environments. The fluid patterns and irregular textures are designed to evoke ocean currents, coral formations, and the imperfect rhythms found in nature. Woven and finished in Belgium, the project also highlights Cocono’s approach to contemporary textile design, where craftsmanship, materiality, and sensory experience come together to create pieces that feel both artistic and deeply livable.

COLLECTED is a gallery and showroom offering a curated selection of furniture, rugs, and lighting, bringing together both established and emerging designers. As part of Design September, we will be showcasing the work of several designers. DIRK MEYLAERT operates at the intersection of design, art, and craftsmanship, creating furniture where form emerges from ecological, technical, and philosophical constraints rather than function alone. His approach champions local solid wood, traditional craftsmanship, and bespoke post-industrial production as a response to contemporary environmental and social challenges. STUDIO.REMY is a Dutch design studio founded in 2014 and led by Remy van Zandbergen and Anke Verstappen. Their practice focuses on miniature joinery, storytelling, and modular ceramics. Attention to detail, a keen sense of modularity, and a technical aesthetic lie at the heart of their work. NOLASTAR is a space-dividing and curtain system embodying timeless design and innovative materiality; originally conceived in 1999 by Ana Motjér Milanés for Royal Family Design Lab, it was later reimagined by Pablo Octavio in its current aluminum version. Nolastar combines aesthetic elegance with high functionality, creating spaces that breathe while offering genuine practical efficiency. MAUD BRUNSTEIN is a textile designer specializing in knitwear and the exploration of experimental materials. Her work is grounded in an ethical, circular approach, utilizing surplus production yarns and relying on a high level of technical knitting expertise. She plays with color to create an interplay between material, body, and space. ADRIAN CRUZ ELEMENTS is a Mexican architect and designer. His work is based on an artisanal resin technique developed in 1946 by his grandfather, Chema, in Mexico City. Her creations blend the vibrant colors of Mexican culture with architectural rigor.

Commerce Design Brussels have rewarded Brussels retail spaces built on a genuine collaboration between shopkeepers and designers. The 2026 jury is chaired by interior architect Nathalie Deboel and brings together professionals from design, interior architecture, cultural institutions and the press.
Trademart Brussels, PRO main partner of the festival, hosts three days dedicated to interiors from 27 to 29 September, closing with the awards ceremony for this edition's seven winners.

Transformation of a restaurant occupying the volumes of a former fishmonger's dating from 1926, whose Art Nouveau facade dates back to 1906. The project articulates contemporary interventions — stone and stainless steel — with the rigorous preservation of the historic interior elements inherited from the original fishmonger's. The menu, curated by chef Kevin Perlot, is primarily dedicated to fish. The stainless steel surfaces capture and reflect, in the manner of a body of water, the movement of the city throughout the day.

To celebrate its third anniversary, Cru atelier opens the doors of its new studio during Design Week Brussels. Founded by Sarah El Yousefy and Nina Ouchinsky, both trained as architects, Cru atelier is a design studio dedicated to creating bespoke interior pieces and collectible objects crafted from organic and geo-sourced materials. Their practice brings together craftsmanship, creativity, sustainability and a deep sensitivity to materials. Driven by a fascination for the textures, nuances and possibilities of natural materials, they have developed a practice rooted in experimentation and the rediscovery of traditional craftsmanship—a space where ancestral techniques meet contemporary design. This open studio is an invitation to discover their working environment, ongoing research and the material explorations that shape each project.

The third edition of Curated, a collectible design exhibition open to all, hosted at Mix Brussels and curated by Lionel Jadot. Featuring the work of 35 talented designers, this unique event transforms the historic former Royale Belge into a vibrant hub of creativity. Designers, artists, collectors, and architects will come together to showcase and share their exceptional creations. Design for Resilience is a Belgian textile research studio exploring the intersection of design, sustainability, and local craftsmanship.

In Brussels and in collaboration with local partners, we design and knit refined, responsible textile pieces — from home linens to zero-plastic accessories — created to elevate contemporary interiors while caring for the planet.

Our long-term vision: to help rebuild a Belgian textile industry that is ethical, organic, and future-proof — rooted in local innovation and circular design.

This September, DESIGN IN RESIDENCE will open at Dansaert 64 in Brussels, introducing a new platform for design, art, and architecture.
Beyond the conventional gallery format, this residence treats the interior as a curated space where selected works engage in direct dialogue with architecture, materiality, and one another.
DESIGN IN RESIDENCE investigates how furniture, objects, artworks, and spatial interventions come together through a careful selection of contemporary practices.
Initiated by the CC Creative Consulting agency, the residence extends its curatorial approach into a physical space, featuring designers, artists, and collections chosen for their distinctive authorship, cultural relevance, and lasting aesthetic value.

Bridging the gap between the raw energy of the studio and the refined atmosphere of the gallery, we celebrate the human hand as the true source of all creativity. It is the bridge between raw material and refined object, the conduit through which emotion translates into form. For Brussels Design Week 2026, Subtile invites visitors into “Draft & Form"—a scenography that favors a lived-in and vibrant sanctuary.

"Draft & Form" is a dialogue, not a static display. We occupy the space of the artist Patricia Sartori in the Center of Brussels, allowing the boundary between creation and exhibition to dissolve. Here, the visitor steps into the living process. Our selection highlights a new generation of designers who refuse to be categorized—those who navigate the fluid, blurred lines between sculpture and utility, between the decorative and the essential.

Look closely at the materiality of this space. We invite you to pause and question: Is it textile? Is it ceramic? Is it earth, or is it woven memory?

In this curated landscape, materials are pushed to their limits. We present pieces where the tactile nature of clay mimics the softness of fabric, and where the rigidity of design forms bends to the sensuality of ancestral techniques.
Within this narrative, a vintage or antique piece is always integrated. We include it not merely as an aesthetic choice, but as a deliberate act of reverence. It stands as a tribute to the artisans of the past whose hands breathed life into these durable objects, and as a quiet acknowledgment of the lives that have flourished in their presence. By inviting these historical echoes into the space, we honor the continuity of craftsmanship and remind ourselves that a well-made object is a vessel for both creation and memory.

By placing these enduring pieces alongside contemporary work and the artist’s tools—the sketches, the raw clay, the works-in-progress—we honor the intelligence of the hand as the common thread of human history. Subtile’s presence at Design Brussels is a testament to this philosophy: design is not merely about the final product; it is the culmination of a story told through matter. As a gallery, we act as a conductor between the visionary designer and the collector, rejecting mass-standardization to champion unique, soul-filled icons.

Duplex designs and manufactures unique, sustainable furniture for professionals. The raw materials: industrial waste and reused materials. Round and square steel tubes from overproduction, machining scraps from wood panels or posts, and recycled HPL panels. What industries discard becomes the foundation for one-of-a-kind, functional pieces built to last.
At its production facilities in Anderlecht, Duplex combines design, manufacturing, and industrial logic in a practical approach to the circular economy, where design doesn’t stop at the drawing board but engages directly with materials, tools, and production constraints. Each piece thus carries a story that no catalog can replicate.

DUST NEVER SWEEPS tests latent possibilities in three areas of the home.

In POEM OF THE ACUTE ANGLE, wedges are the simple machine that level the driveway, a first step to human usability of a zone architecturally reserved for the absent automobile. On Sunday, it hosts an afternoon film programme, recollections of past events through the agglomeration of selected personal dust.

CROCANTINE pulls a chest freezer into the middle of a clean-enough garage floor. Inside, a few flavours of ice cream for specific archetypes of gourmandise.

The living room turns into ANOTHER LIVING ROOM where losses are told, findings are shown, access is provisionally granted, the outputs of the chipboard economy are neutralized for assimilation, and a new balance is negotiated.

Within Corpus Gallery, Nicolas Verschaeve presents excerpts from several projects recently carried out in collaboration with various manufacturers. Based between Brussels and the Northern Vosges, and engaged for several years in a practice rooted in fieldwork, he composes through his stopovers with what overflows from objects and what precedes them — a set of geographical, historical, social, economic and political parameters. At the heart of his work as a designer of objects and spaces, he seeks to reveal the active forces at play in the emergence of forms and uses, making legible the processes that shape our material environments. Nicolas Verschaeve favours considered operations at the scale of the manufactory and semi-product factories over technical feats: a brickworks in Alsace, a tool-handle maker in Burgundy, a sawmill in Moselle. These collaborations reveal the productive landscape that persists in a deindustrialised country. Intuitions that seek to express — through dialogue with the existing and an economy of means — the field of possibilities still to explore, the desirable opportunities of a frugal production built from the forces at hand.

Opened in mid-December in the Flagey area, FLIPPER’s - Original Burger marks a return to the roots of the Burger. A project conceived as a tribute to the founding taste of fast food, one that transcends generations and becomes part of a culture, much like fries in Belgium or pizza in Italy. Founded by Julien Van Espen, Basile Stein and Mardeen Benjamin, FLIPPER’s was born from a meeting and a shared love for the Burger. Together, they set out to return to its essence, immersing themselves in its original culture: that of early fast food, when simplicity, craftsmanship and quality were at the heart of the experience. FLIPPER’s embodies this philosophy. No reimagined Burgers or trendy concepts here, but an Original Burger, respected and executed with precision. The FLIPPER’s Burger is built around a carefully developed meat recipe: a precise blend of selected cuts of beef, with the right fat ratio for a juicy, flavorful texture. The patty is thin, without being smashed, ensuring perfect balance with the toasted bun, the toppings and the Magic Sauce. Cooking is carefully controlled to deliver a grilled patty with a lightly crispy layer and a tender, juicy center. The offer also includes chicken and a vegetarian option, always guided by the same pursuit of pleasure. The menu is intentionally short and easy to read: Burgers, fries, a few sides, sauces and sodas. The essentials, without distraction. The interior design extends this philosophy. Bright, clear and fluid, it draws inspiration from American fast food with open kitchens, where techniques and ingredients are proudly showcased. A simple, well-honed operation based on specialization and consistency, ensuring the same quality day after day. The project is embodied by Flipper, a dolphin who carries the brand’s identity and stretches its imagination. A symbol of freedom, fun and movement, Flipper brings a distinctly Californian universe to FLIPPER’s, blending fast food culture, sunshine and lightness. A discreet yet structuring presence that gives the project its tone, energy and personality. The soundtrack completes the experience, blending music, kitchen sounds, the sizzle of the grill and conversations to create a lively, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. FLIPPER’s is designed as an open place for everyone, regardless of age, status or background. A space for meeting and sharing, where guests come to rediscover a simple, sincere taste, one they recognize and genuinely enjoy. From its early stages, the project was developed with Charly Buron, who led the artistic direction and identity of the space, in collaboration with graphic designer Maxim Brillant, who contributed to the creation of the visual identity. Brussels Design September welcomed the Compasso d’Oro-winning Italian designer as its Guest of Honor. His first solo exhibition in Brussels, Radical Landscapes, opened on September 11 at A. Galerie.

Ahead of the screening of Ten Times Black, a documentary on his practice, at the Italian Cultural Institute, we sat down with Trimarchi to talk about landscapes, fragility, and the rhythm of drawing.

An adaptable shelter concept for people experiencing homelessness, a ceramic installation evoking a rural interior, and textiles made from reclaimed cardboard collected in Brussels. Following its annual tradition, the group exhibition 'Future Generation: The MAD Graduation Show' celebrates the winners of the MAD Graduation Prize 2026 while showcasing their innovative graduation projects. No fewer than seven institutions are represented in the exhibition: Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, College of Art and Design, Ateliers Saint Luc, École supérieure des arts Saint Luc, Haute Ecole Francisco Ferrer, La Cambre and LUCA School Of Arts. From textile design and interior design to industrial product development and fashion design, a total of 14 winners are honoured at MAD Brussels from 1 October to 12 December.

Brussels-based visual artist and scenographer, I have been developing my wallpaper brand Tenue de Ville for over ten years. In 2019, an ecological reflection led me to revalue my wallpaper offcuts as a primary material. This approach brought me back to experimentation and to learning traditional crafts such as weaving and ceramics. Textile plays a central role in my research: I weave strips of naturally dyed wallpaper in a dialogue between contemporary reuse and Belgian textile heritage. My works are often accompanied by sculptural forms in wood or clay, evoking the memory of the gesture and artisanal traditions. My practice thus unfolds at the intersection of sustainability, transmission, and contemporary creation.

Green Fabric is a socially conscious textile ‘third place’ – a space for creation, knowledge-sharing and innovation where we work together in a different way. It is a place where we pool our knowledge, tools and resources to make creativity accessible to everyone. Through our machinery, expertise and facilities, we support sustainable creative and innovative projects by promoting recycling, upcycling and ethical practices. Our space caters to a diverse range of people: the general public, with creative workshops and a second-hand haberdashery; designers, with shared and individual workspaces; and makers and artists, with the textile fablab. Equipped with machines dedicated to textile design, our fablab is a shared space designed for development, prototyping and production. We encourage cross-pollination between textiles, craft, digital technology and recycling, with the aim of developing new tools and applications together.

With headspace, we’re filling the living space of a charming townhouse in Etterbeek with furniture and objects by young designers and artists. We’re creating a bold yet cozy and cohesive interior. The goal is to invite designers, enthusiasts, and anyone else who’s interested to come together in our living room! The concept remains the same, but following the wonderful connections and collaborations from the previous edition, we want to focus even more this year on bringing artists and designers together. Instead of just exhibiting work, we’d like to invite participants to help curate and create.

The project will take the form of a temporary pop-up store, open from September to January, conceived as a space for dialogue and experimentation around design. A carefully curated selection of iconic 20th-century design pieces, presented alongside works by Belgian and international artists, will create immersive and experimental installations that go beyond a conventional retail display. The space will be conceived as a curatorial experience in which furniture, objects, artworks and art books engage in a dialogue with one another. More than a retail space, this pop-up is envisioned as a living laboratory where design is presented as a cultural language, a constantly evolving heritage, and a source of inspiration for contemporary creation. Its aim is to raise awareness among a curious audience of the value of iconic objects while highlighting the richness of contemporary artistic practices in Belgium and beyond.

In 2006, the first “Designer of the Year” award was presented in Belgium. The prize was originally established by the Interieur Biennale and the magazines Knack Weekend and Le Vif Weekend, and was awarded that year to Brussels-based designer Alain Berteau. Over the years, various partners joined the initiative, and it grew into a well-established reference in the Belgian design landscape. Twenty years later, the list of laureates reads as a best-of-the-best of what the country has to offer in contemporary design: from ceramic designers and silversmiths to product and lighting designers. Concepts such as innovation, originality, and ecology are often central to their work. The list includes names such as Muller Van Severen, Alain Gilles, Nedda El-Asmar, Julien Renault, and Linde Freya Tangelder. On the occasion of the 20th edition of the title, all twenty names come together in an exhibition at MAD Brussels, on view from 1 October to 12 December.

A Franco-Canadian lighting designer, Philippe Vasseur specialises in creative recycling and eco-design, for indoors and outdoors alike.

“Zui”, inspired by the term “zuihan” meaning an informal meal, brings a ceremonial and refined presence to the dining experience. The platter set is composed of elliptical, sculptural forms reminiscent of smooth, cut zen stones, balancing soft curves with sharp edges. Designed using CAD for precision, each piece’s plaster model was then hand sculpted to bring a human touch to the technical design. The pieces were hand burnished to achieve a smooth, tactile surface.To highlight the raw beauty of the material, the non food contact surfaces were left unglazed, offering a organic contrast to the glazed, functional surfaces. This collection merges modern technology with traditional craft, transforming the informal meal into an experience.

On 2 October, Belgian designer Jean-François D’Or will present a unique performance featuring the musician Benjamin Glorieux at MAD Brussels as part of the exhibition Trans-formations. Known for his poetic yet functional objects, D’Or here steps beyond product design into an ephemeral, multidisciplinary space where music, writing, installation, and risk meet. Inspired by Californian surf shacks, the North Sea and the beach houses of the Hamptons, the interior combines a welcoming feel, meticulous attention to detail and a nostalgic atmosphere.

KA PAI Studio and its collective atelier, based along the train tracks of Schaerbeek, open its doors for a weekend of shared practice and exchange. Inside / Outside invites visitors into our working environment — a space where nature, materials, and diverse creative disciplines intersect. From works in progress to finished pieces, the studio becomes a living landscape of ideas, where practices overlap, influence, and evolve together. Drop in for a closer look, conversations with the artists, and a selection of studio works available for sale.

The exhibition brings together students from the Product Design Studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague with partner sculptors and presents works developed through a semester—long collaboration between the studio, contemporary sculpture practice, and Nosek Foundry, a long—established metal casting workshop. The exhibition reconceptualizes door hardware as architecture’s most intimate point of contact, where a singular physical gesture mediates the transition between the outside world and the domestic space. By expanding this focus to include ornamental reliefs and structural pedestals, the project transcends utility to investigate the fluid boundary between functional design and fine art. Each installation module serves as a collaborative dialogue, physically supporting borrowed sculptures while challenging the traditional hierarchy between a display object and its artistic content. Through these interdisciplinary intersections, the works explore how craft and contemporary practice can dissolve the limits of an object’s primary purpose.

A marquetry artist based in Brussels, Suzanne Pietrzyk turns wood veneer into a material for composition. She assembles reclaimed veneers and offcuts into unique marquetry surfaces, for objects and wall pieces. Each piece is shaped by the grain and colour of the reclaimed wood it is made from, with close attention paid to local sourcing, reuse and repairability.

L3 is a pendant light made from repurposed glass medical syringe barrels. The project was developed as part of the TRY AGAIN? initiative, a project aimed at repurposing industrial surplus that invites artists and designers to transform materials destined for destruction into durable and desirable objects. By transforming these medical components into decorative elements, L3 offers a new interpretation of an object typically associated with the hospital setting. Through the repetition and modular assembly of the bases, the lamp creates a lightweight structure inspired by crystal chandeliers, playing with transparency, light, and geometry. The project seeks to transform a symbol that can sometimes be anxiety-inducing into a soothing luminous presence.

Leaf Lab: From Memory to Light Botanical Lampshade Design Workshop Plants are silent witnesses of our lives. They mark places, seasons, celebrations, and personal stories. How can nature become both art and design? In this hands-on workshop, participants create a unique botanical composition using dried flowers, leaves, and other natural materials. Guided by the Viaplant team, these botanical fragments are arranged into a personal pattern that will later be transformed into a handcrafted lamp. The workshop explores the intersection of nature, storytelling, sustainability, and contemporary design. Each participant creates a unique design while discovering how plants can preserve memories and become part of everyday objects.
We provide a curated selection of plants and botanical materials for the workshop. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own meaningful flowers, leaves, or even an entire bouquet. Both fresh and dried plant materials are welcome and can be incorporated into the design. During the workshop, participants design and create the botanical lampshade pattern using dried plants and natural materials. The final handcrafted lamp is produced in the Viaplant studio after the event. The completed lamp will be available for collection within 4 weeks at the Liszt Institute in Brussels. If preferred, the lamp can also be shipped to a designated address for an additional delivery fee. Children are welcome when accompanied and supervised by an adult.

Papier Boulettes is a project of monumental frescoes made from recycled paper, born in Brussels in 2021 out of the collaboration between Maud Bocquet and Zélie Boulestreau.
The frescoes are most often created in situ, from paper and cardboard gathered on site. Drawing on ecological insulation techniques, recycled paper pulp is spread across the walls. This simple process, between art and craft, gives rise to complex motifs: animal, plant and mineral.

A multidisciplinary artist and artistic director of Papier Boulettes, Zélie Boulestreau brings to the project her papermaking expertise and her interest in living systems and the preservation of ecosystems, informed by her knowledge of the plants she grows in her Pyrenean garden.

Lichtzoekers is a project in which we create images of people and transform them into “Lichtzoekers.” The images are installed in the centre of Brussels, hanging from or standing against building facades, in poses that suggest climbing upward or reaching toward the sky. Together, the light seekers form a trail through the city. They invite passers-by to look up. In a city that can sometimes feel grey, they remind us of the longing for air and light. The Lichtzoekers are both local residents and more widely known figures, people with diverse backgrounds and stories who together shape the city. Each participant becomes part of the project and, in doing so, part of a collective narrative.

Our studio will be open on 25, 28 and 30 September and 2 October, from 9 am to 5 pm on each of these days.

BASE+1 brings together Brussels-based collective Espace Aygo and curator Jan Boelen for a conversation about design as a living practice.
What happens when making, living, and thinking are no longer treated as separate activities? What can design become when it starts from materials, places, communities, and the realities of everyday life?
Through this encounter, Espace Aygo and Jan Boelen will share their perspectives on the relationships between objects, spaces, uses, and ways of living, and on how design can contribute to imagining new ways of living together.

He currently directs the programme of the Aral School in Uzbekistan. Through his projects and exhibitions, Boelen encourages audiences to look at everyday objects differently and reconsider how design shapes the way we live and think.

To mark Design Week Brussels 2026, Nous sommes ici is opening the doors to its studio, located within the GROW project, and inviting Cru atelier to present an exhibition dedicated to its research into materials and design. This collaboration brings together two practices which, on different scales, share the same approach to design: a focus on process, materiality, detail and execution. Architecture and craftsmanship are informed by a shared philosophy in which form emerges from a dialogue between context, material, technique and use.

Designed by Nous sommes ici, GROW is a shared workspace organised around a central garden. Developed from the existing structure, the project prioritises reuse, bio-based materials and an architectural approach that is mindful of resources, the landscape and usage.

Through this open day, Nous sommes ici shares its approach, based on three complementary fields: strategy, architecture and landscape.

In keeping with this approach, Cru atelier, founded by Sarah El Yousefy and Nina Ouchinsky, presents a selection of research, experiments and prototypes developed since 2023. Raw earth, lime, hemp and natural fibres form the basis for an exploration of design, craftsmanship and geo-sourced materials, where each object emerges from a dialogue between experimentation, technique and sensibility.

More than just an exhibition within an architectural project, this collaboration reveals the links that unite two disciplines: creation as a process, in which thinking, experimenting and building are all part of the same movement.

Throughout this exhibition and open days, the collaboration between Cru atelier and Nous sommes ici transforms GROW into a space for exploration, where architecture, design and craftsmanship engage in dialogue through materials, craftsmanship and the project itself. An invitation to discover the creative process that links reflection, experimentation and form.

A bespoke furniture shop in the heart of Ixelles, open to the public during the festival.

The curator and director of the Museo Kartell in Milan will travel to Brussels to give a talk during the special event that the Brussels flagship store is dedicating to the festival. The event will begin at the Design Museum Brussels, featuring historic pieces from the Kartell collection, and will continue at the Kartell Brussels store, followed by an evening cocktail reception.

Following U.NION, G&J CO.LAB continues its collaborative research with O.NION, an evolving textile project developed as a series of episodes. The first chapter will be unveiled in September. With O.NION, G&J CO.LAB explores the body as a construction through layers — a space of transformation, where textile, gesture, and movement interact. The project is composed of textile pieces conceived both as a wall-based composition and as garments to be activated on the body. Presented flat, the elements exist in a suspended state — a moment of latency, awaiting activation. Detached and worn one by one, they progressively transform the static composition into a moving presence. Like the layers of an onion, each piece acts as an envelope: protecting, revealing, concealing, and transforming. Through accumulation and removal, the body is continuously redefined. Each element is developed through a specific textile technique — weaving, knitting, felting, embroidery, beading — forming a vocabulary of gestures and materials. The body becomes the site where the work is activated, where textile leaves its suspended state to enter into movement. This first episode unfolds through a deep black monochrome, conceived as a luminous and active material.

OASIS.bxl will be hosting two parallel exhibitions: one by Japanese artist Yuko Nakaya initiated by Arielle d’Hauterives Gallery and another in collaboration with Brussels Design Week 2026.
To bring both together in a celebration, a sensory dinner will take place on 26 September. Chef, hunter-gatherer, mushroom enthusiast, pepper connoisseur, and anarchist fermenter Dopamine Core (Jules Lavergne), alongside floral scenographer Ellea Cartier, will create an immersive ambience and culinary experience rooted in local traditions, with Japanese accents in dialogue with the existing artistic installations. With Jules’ culinary expertise and against the backdrop of both exhibitions merging together, the dinner shifts into a liminality deriving from the Japanese concept of Ma (lit. 'gap, space, pause'), where each participant becomes an artist, taking part in the creation of that space while embracing the idea of being present.

5. Sylvie Van de Walle: Somewhere between art and design, narrative and play, her work resists categories and chooses instead to live on the edge.
6. Goma Design Studio: Discarded and natural materials are transformed through slow making, experimentation and Wabi-Sabi beauty, giving imperfection a new meaning.

OASIS.bxl is an independent space in Brussels, shaped for artistic projects, cultural activity and creative communities. Light-filled and generous in scale, the 300m² venue offers a setting where different practices can meet without being confined to a single format. The space welcomes exhibitions, intimate concerts, open rehearsals, workshops, residencies and hybrid formats. Its flexible character supports both public-facing events and the quieter stages of making: testing, gathering, learning and developing ideas together. objects and design for 'the corner' How much untapped potential lies in the corners of our spaces? This project by Matthieu Moons redefines corners, viewing them not as subordinate, but as valid design elements. Three objects demonstrate a new approach to the corner.

Off the Grid brings together contemporary designers whose practices challenge conventional ways of thinking, making and presenting design. Resisting easy categorisation, each follows an independent path, celebrating diverse voices that question established systems and expand the boundaries between design, craft and art.

For the BX Design Week, three complementary creative visions open the doors of their shared showroom. Bridging the gap between fine craft and contemporary design, this collaborative exhibition invites the public on an immersive journey exploring the dialogue between clay, paper, and structural form. Atelier Moya: Bespoke framing for graphic arts and minimalist object design. KitchenGravure by Lea: Eco-conscious contemporary prints and brutalist-inspired engravings. Bérénice Milon: Artist and designer, presenting a new collection of ceramics.

During this year’s Brussels Design Week, OpenStructures hosts a MARKET of small furniture and useful items that are designed and made according to their open modular script. This collaborative market features natural wax lamps by Baguette Studio, baskets and hooks by Diane Steverlynck and Maud Vande Veire, bags and containers by Packbags, wallhooks by Labt alongside rare archive copies by OS_Studios and some new developments. All pieces are designed according to circular principles, can be disassembled after use and its components be reused within the open framework. If not wanted or needed anymore, items can be returned to the system and avoid of ever being wasted.

Studio Porcepolis is a Brussels-based ceramic practice rooted in circular design and low-waste production. Its work brings together craftsmanship, sustainability, and contemporary aesthetics, with a particular focus on functional objects such as tableware. Each piece is handmade in the studio using reclaimed or locally sourced materials whenever possible. The practice integrates upcycling strategies, transforming discarded or imperfect elements into new forms. Through this approach, Studio Porcepolis questions conventional production cycles while exploring the aesthetic potential of reuse. The work is defined by a balance between simplicity and texture, where subtle irregularities highlight the handmade nature of each object. Studio Porcepolis creates pieces that are both durable and meaningful, encouraging a more conscious relationship with everyday objects.

For this year's Brussels Design Week, Unveiled Collective is once again participating, this time with its own venue. Under the theme REAPPROPRIATE, the exhibition explores how existing contexts, materials, objects, and spaces can acquire new meaning through alternative approaches and acts of reappropriation. Reappropriate is not only about the reuse of materials, but also about reinterpreting functions, narratives, and perceptions. The participating designers and artists are invited to engage in a dialogue with this theme through their work. The project takes place in a typical Brussels townhouse near Flagey. The building will eventually be transformed into an art gallery and guesthouse, but before its renovation, Unveiled is temporarily occupying the space in its current raw state. By giving the site a temporary new purpose, the location itself becomes the first expression of the exhibition's theme. Its unfinished condition forms an essential part of the project, allowing the works to engage directly with the architecture.

ROVER is a start-up that inventories waste streams from local industries and reuses them in furniture production. The method being developed in the project reverses the design process. Instead of starting with an idea and then proceeding to design and materialize, this project starts from what is already there. In doing so, it aims to change the perception of waste streams and add a new function to the life cycle of materials.

To mark the festival's 20th anniversary, and after a first edition last year, Shifting Ground returns to USquare with A Garden Party, an immersive exhibition built around celebration as a space for meeting, creation and collective reflection. It brings together Belgian and European designers.
The project starts from a paradox: staging a celebration at a time when social, economic and creative expression is increasingly fragile. The garden party, historically associated with certain forms of privilege, is reinterpreted here as a critical device, a way of questioning how we gather and celebrate.

Augusta Gallery presents Soft Assemblies, an exhibition highlighting innovative techniques of joining, weaving, and braiding. Through research and experimentation, six European designers interlace reused and natural elements to create new forms and transform spaces.

For this exhibition, Agnieszka Mazur crafts sculptural lamps and objects from discarded sand, inspired by the traditional sandcastles on the beaches of Zeeland. The collaboration between Amandine David and Esmée Hofman explores contrasts by combining digital techniques and basketry to create sculptural containers. Textile designers Juliette Berthonneau and Justine Gaignault experiment with textures, juxtaposing dense patterns with translucent areas as they felt linen and wool weaves into decorative and functional textiles. Laure Kasiers unveils new wall rugs featuring abstract motifs, employing a technique she developed using interlaced strips of wool and linen.

The exhibition explores a new facet of the transformation of materials through connections, intertwining, and the rhythm of successive layers.

For more than fifteen years, Studio with a View has brought together designers, artists, textile makers and decorative painters in a shared studio environment. Since relocating from Molenbeek to Avenue Poincaré, the collective has continued to foster a dialogue between art, design and craftsmanship through a shared fascination with materials. For Brussels Design Week, the covered courtyard becomes an island-like setting for a collective exhibition featuring works, prototypes and material explorations by the studio's residents. While each practice retains its own distinct identity, together they reflect on making, process and materiality. The exhibition unfolds alongside the daily life of the studios, which remain open to visitors throughout the event.
The day begins at 11:00 with a shared brunch. The studios and exhibition remain open until 18:00.

FLORA HUBOT
Flora Hubot's practice explores the expressive potential of surfaces, combining artisanal techniques such as papermaking and decorative faux finishing. Rooted in close observation of contemporary society, her figurative approach gives rise to a distinctive visual language in which material and image engage in a continuous dialogue.

LAURE KASIERS
Textile designer and craftswoman Laure Kasiers designs and handcrafts unique rugs for floors and walls in her Brussels-based studio. Using a distinctive, unconventional technique, she creates organic forms and patterns that celebrate the tactile qualities of textile.

NEL VERBEKE
Nel Verbeke is a conceptual designer and artist whose work explores the emotional potential of design. Through extensive research, she creates objects and situations that challenge and reshape our relationship with ourselves and the world around us.

PIERRE-YVES MOREL
Pierre-Yves Morel is a decorative painter specialising in faux wood and faux marble finishes. Alongside commissions for private residences, he develops contemporary objects that reinterpret—and occasionally subvert—traditional decorative painting techniques.

TERRAIN VAGUE
Terrain Vague is the collaboration between designer Damien Gernay and ceramic artist Julie Istasse. Inspired by natural forms, textures and phenomena, they create ceramic objects that bring together traditional craftsmanship and emerging technologies. Each piece invites us to slow down, observe more closely and reconnect with nature.

This series of objects stems from a simple question posed to sales and rental companies: What do you do with your surplus materials? It is from this salvaged scaffolding—often set aside or destined for the scrap heap—that the series takes shape. Scaffolding, in its primary use, is a tool for construction sites. It structures space, supports people and materials, and disappears once the work is done. It is functional, temporary, and massive. Here, its status changes. By repurposing its original function, it becomes a raw material in its own right. It is no longer a means to an end; it is the subject itself. Its tubes, connectors, and assemblies—designed for sturdiness and efficiency—are reinterpreted to explore other qualities: visual lightness, suspension in space, and the raw beauty of an industrial material taken out of context.

COLLECTION ACCESSORY DESIGN (Dog) accessories with a dual function. Exploring shapes that can be used by dog & owner. A collection of various luxury accessories (belts, small leather goods, lifestyle) with a double functionality: from a pocket belt that can be used as a dog harness to a dog toy that can also be your purse. This leather goods collection combines industrial techniques (lasercutting, machine sewing) with handwork (handsewing, moldmaking) to continue the concept of duality. A playful lifestyle collection for you and your dog. Main materials: vegetal tanned leather, natural rubber, fur, wool This collection was a result of my masters studies at Institut Français de la Mode Paris that I finished in june 2025.

In a windowless and black tiled room in my workshop I would like to present a few new design pieces built over the course of this summer. Central, a steel bed with a rhythm of 70 blackened oak balls in the head- and footboard. A hard materiality for soft dreams. Next to that, two cabinets in pine built around an upcycled metal core. Two unique pieces. Some lamps designed over the last year accompany the bedroom setup, adding up to a nice overview of my first two years of running Medium Triske full time (the design aspect of it). While entering the space, guests get a little peak into the workshop and might be entertained by some improv bedside lute playing.

The Dominican bears the traces of faith, contemplation and collective ritual.
The Secular Chapel explores how that search takes new forms today. The exhibition brings together designers who develop objects, materials and narratives as contemporary vehicles of attention, desire and imagination.
Where chapels were once filled with icons and relics, this exhibition presents a collection of new artefacts. Not as objects of worship, but as invitations to reflect. Each work proposes its own system of values, a personal mythology or a possible future.
The exhibition positions design not as a solution, but as a cultural practice that generates meaning. Visitors are invited to pause on what still holds value today, on what connects us, and on the stories we choose to pass on.
The Secular Chapel is not a place of faith, but of attention.

Brussels is one of Europe’s most misunderstood cities: By reputation, one imagines a grey center of commerce and diplomacy, refined but a bit remote.
That stereotype misses the lively, playful, off-the-wall currents that have always defined Brussels, from comic books to the wild curvature of Art Nouveau. Yes, it’s a city of suits and boardrooms—but also of contemporary fashion, flower markets, New Beat music and cutting-edge design.
Above all, Brussels is a cultural melting pot, a nexus where 183 nationalities, countless languages and bold ideas shape the future of Europe, and the world.
The Standard, Brussels entered the frame with these currents in mind. The Northern Quarter sets the perfect backdrop for a new vision of Brussels. In this neighborhood, 60s apartment blocks and office towers replaced a once-vibrant architectural scene, introducing a brutal new vocabulary: all business and no play. Rather than fighting that history, The Standard sought to reframe it, to infuse its own steel rectangle with blooms of color, warmth and greenery.
The result is a hotel that recognizes the neighborhood’s complicated history while suggesting a creative way forward. Housed on the site of the 1970s World Trade Center, The Standard finally anchors Quartier Nord with a sense of place and soul.
The architecture is treated as both artifact and framework: its scale and structure are respected, while new layers introduce warmth, tactility, and human-scale interventions. Where some see Brussels as a city at odds with itself, The Standard saw a matrix of fascinating contradictions to celebrate, not solve.
The design balances hard and soft, right angles and organic shapes, pragmatism and poetry. That tension animates a lively array of public spaces, from the ground-floor greenhouse to the top-floor dining room. A thoughtful mix of custom furniture and vintage pieces blend past and present, just as The Standard juxtaposes high and low, futurism and nostalgia.
Each space rewards curiosity, slowness, and attention to detail. Interior spaces unfold as a sequence of discoveries rather than grand gestures.
Public areas encourage movement and spontaneity, while quieter zones invite reflection and retreat. Materiality draws from local references—craft traditions, urban textures, and rich color palettes—interpreted through a contemporary lens. Lighting, acoustics, and spatial rhythms are calibrated to create atmospheres that evolve through the day, reflecting Brussels’ shifting tempo.
At the heart of the concept is community. Brussels is one of Europe’s most international cities, shaped by constant cultural exchange. The design embraces this dynamism through inclusive, adaptable spaces that feel simultaneously local and global. Social areas function as platforms for connection, where residents, visitors and creatives intersect. Hospitality is reframed as a civic experience, positioning the building as both refuge and forum. By revealing what has long been overlooked The Standard, Brussels it proposes a new narrative for the Northern Quarter and for the city itself—one that celebrates innovation, collaboration, and possibility.
Through architecture and interior design, the project anchors a renewed sense of place, giving Brussels a stage on which its overlooked stories can finally be seen and felt.

Every year, the Commerce Design Awards map the landscape of exceptional and inviting commercial spaces, serving as a practical guide for both locals and visitors in Brussels. We don’t need to dwell on how design shapes our lives—but when it comes to shops and hospitality venues, it’s fascinating to ask: what makes a commercial space truly enjoyable? Why do we return, again and again, with enthusiasm?

Commercial spaces have become daily meeting points, where ergonomic design, materials, furnishings, colors, and lighting all shape our mood, well-being, and experience. This year, the jury evaluated entries across every dimension of excellence—from originality, functionality, and usability to furniture design, layout, material choices, and color schemes.

They also considered innovative solutions, concept coherence, visual quality, and the harmony of form. Sustainability and social impact received special attention, highlighting design’s role beyond aesthetics.

The exhibition ’Transcarpathian Slow Fashion’ presents the unique world of the Hungarian fashion brand BY ME, founded by Hungarian fashion designer Tünde Hrivnák. Inspired by Hungarian folk traditions and craftsmanship, the brand transforms heritage into contemporary luxury fashion while promoting sustainability, cultural identity, and artisanal excellence. The central focus of the exhibition is the Collection with Transcarpathian Motifs, a contemporary fashion collection inspired by the Hungarian cultural heritage of Transcarpathia (the westernmost part of Ukraine, where Hungarian communities have lived for centuries). The collection reinterprets three significant craft traditions of the region: Bereg handwoven textiles, Nagydobrony cross-stitch embroidery, and the Bereg cross-stitch motif heritage. The garments combine traditional craftsmanship with modern design, creating wearable works of art. Alongside the main collection, the exhibition also presents a glimpse into other collections, highlighting unique lace traditions and craftsmanship. Together, these collections demonstrate how traditional Hungarian craftsmanship can be preserved, revitalised, and reimagined for the 21st century. Transcarpathian Slow Fashion celebrates cultural heritage, conscious and sustainable design, artworks, and the importance of handmade craftsmanship.

IMAGINAIR is an artist-led gallery in Brussels (Ixelles) specialising in authentic design, art and photography, founded and run by creatives Katrien Vanderbiest and Geoffrey Lambert.
During Brussels Design Week, the gallery launches its third season with an exhibition that once again explores the boundary between art and design.
In UMBRA, IMAGINAIR brings together the work of co-founder and sculptor/designer Geoffrey Lambert (b. 1985, Brussels, Belgium) with that of renowned artist and graphic designer LUKASZ – Lukasz Kurzatkowski – (b. 1958, Lublin, Poland), whose estate is exclusively represented by Maurice Verbaet.
With a scenography where the space between the objects and the works speaks just as strongly as the objects themselves, IMAGINAIR invites its audience to reflect on that tipping point: where design or form becomes art, and how this is encapsulated in the white space between the lines.

Né à Anvers, originaire du Nord de l’Espagne, Angel Barrero se forme très tôt à la sculpture auprès de son père. Cette transmission artisanale fonde un lien profond entre savoir-faire traditionnel et création contemporaine. Maître contemporain du stuc-marbre et de la scagliola, il consacre depuis de nombreuses années ses recherches à ces techniques historiques, qu’il enrichit au fil de collaborations et de formations auprès de maîtres reconnus en France, en Italie, en Espagne et en Belgique. Aujourd’hui, il réinterprète ces procédés anciens dans une écriture singulière, à la croisée de la sculpture, du design d’objet unique et de la peinture abstraite expressionniste. Son travail a été présenté dans plusieurs galeries, notamment à New York. Il dirige également sa propre galerie à Bruxelles, entièrement dédiée à ses créations en stuc marbre.

"Two seemingly different worlds, yet the same approach to design.
Zoé explores the intersection of art, design and the memory of objects. A lifelong collector of second-hand finds, she allows each discovery to guide her creative process: nothing is sketched out in advance; the work emerges from a dialogue between material, volume and light to create a luminous composition. Her approach questions our relationship with value, memory and consumerism, whilst revealing a subtle beauty in imperfection by placing objects in a different setting, a different time.

Alongside her, Nathalie showcases the creations of female Nordic designers from the 1950s to the 1970s. Her selection of objects, art and furniture is at your disposal, driven by a desire to introduce people to these cultures through design and art.”

Naturally, a few male designers have been included in this selection; solely for the beauty of their work. They were sometimes the partners of these remarkable women.

In 2026, the "Cristalleries du Val Saint-Lambert" is celebrating its bicentenary. To mark this anniversary, the Design Museum Brussels is joining forces with several museums and scientific institutions to highlight this jewel of Belgian industrial heritage and creativity. In collaboration with the Charleroi Glass Museum and curated by Catherine Thomas and Anne Vanlatum, the exhibition "Val Saint-Lambert & Design" is dedicated to the creative output of Val Saint-Lambert from the 1958 World’s Fair to the early 2000s, a period that witnessed an unprecedented creative renewal. Through this joint exhibition, the Design Museum Brussels and the Charleroi Glass Museum invite their visitors to discover the Crystal Studio, a founding chapter in the contemporary history of glass, reflecting the dynamism, the innovation and the international influence of the Cristalleries du Val Saint-Lambert.

Summer has always been a season of freedom, light, travel and celebration. It is the time when nature reaches its greatest intensity and colour. Yet in recent years, this vibrant beauty has been accompanied by another reality, prolonged heatwaves, drought and landscapes pushed beyond their limits. Vibrant Summer, Burning Earth explores this fragile balance through three creative perspectives united by one common language: PLANTS. In ZEMA's porcelain jewellery, Viaplant's plant-based design objects and Barnabás Szakács' botanical artworks, nature becomes ornament, material, memory and message at the same time. The exhibition celebrates the beauty and richness of the botanical world while quietly asking an urgent question: how can we continue to admire nature if we fail to protect it? It is a conversation where nature finds its voice through art and design. Viaplant Nature becomes material. Viaplant explores the point where nature becomes design. Using real plants as a raw material, the studio creates surfaces, lighting and interior objects that preserve the texture, memory and identity of botanical landscapes. Every piece invites us to rediscover our relationship with the natural world. Barnabás Szakács Nature becomes art. As both a landscape architect and visual artist, Barnabás Szakács approaches plants as living archives rather than decorative motifs. His works combine painting with real botanical materials, revealing the fragile dialogue between nature, culture and time. Each composition preserves traces of a landscape while reflecting on our changing relationship with the Earth. Zema Nature becomes jewellery. ZEMA is a family-owned Hungarian porcelain jewelry brand dedicated to preserving and passing on the cultural and artistic values of Hungarian heritage to contemporary generations. Combining a deep respect for tradition with a commitment to art and culture, ZEMA creates unique jewelry collections that are entirely designed and crafted in-house. Sustainability is an essential part of the brand's philosophy: all production materials are recycled, ensuring a waste-free manufacturing process. Through exceptional craftsmanship and distinctive design, ZEMA brings together heritage, creativity, and responsible production in every piece.

In September 2018, designer Lionel Jadot inaugurated Zaventem Ateliers in a former paper factory in Zaventem. The project was born from a clear and visionary ambition: to transform this industrial site into a contemporary, craft-driven hub. More than 30 workshops now call it home, alongside a large canteen and a central space — a genuine eye- catcher — dedicated to showcases and exhibitions.
For Lionel Jadot, Zaventem Ateliers is above all a meeting point built on a shared philosophy: craftspeople, designers and creators inspire one another here. Furniture makers, lighting designers and scenographers rub shoulders daily. And despite this diversity, the village spirit hasn't disappeared: together, the different workshops form a community that is as large as it is close-knit.
