Sophia Kecir Camper, Brakcshaw Studio x Suopheiya Cheek to Cheek 24.09-2.10.2026 For the occasion of the Brussels Design Week 2026, Sophia Kecir Camper's artistic and design practice intertwine to reflect on how the art and act of cooking encapsulates social behaviors and systems of oppressions, beyond the kitchen, as a metaphor of our modern society. As a three-part immersive kitchen installation, open social experiment workshop, culminating as a collective performance, “Cheek to Cheek” is a collective work in progress, inviting the public to take part, question and evolve with it. What makes a kitchen a kitchen? Who takes space in it? Who does not? Who provides what´s in the fridge? Decides what´s for dinner? Who has the cooking knowledge? Who gets their hands dirty? Who comfortably waits seated until dinner is ready? A myriad of questions, turned into prompts. From these prompts, 12 strangers with their own expression and archetypes will come together to co-create a choreography during 6 open workshops. Using theater improvisation, body movement and familiar gestures from our daily life, we will craft a revisited, embodied version of the Renaissance painting from Leonardo da Vinci, The Last Supper. This social experiment is an attempt at investigating and deconstructing systems of oppression that might have become already too familiar in our daily life. While exploring possibilities for subversion and redefining what could take place instead, with ingredients like conviviality, solidarity, cooperation, curiosity, hands-on, embodied practices and critical thinking. The main piece of the installation is what seems to be an open kitchen. It suggests the audience to get closer, and perform gesture-based actions. Through the basic need of eating, we get to reflect on how to regain collective knowledge, agency and the joy of coming together to feed our body and soul, cheek to cheek. Using Speculative Design methods, from futuristic to desirable present realities, Sophia Kecir Camper proposes to redesign our livelihoods and friendships, one kitchen table at a time. 24.09-2.10.2026 10am-8pm. Architecture, furniture, lighting, graphic identity and artistic interventions have been thought through reuse from construction sites and second-hand furniture, handmade architectural elements, artworks, objects carrying traces of previous lives and traditions, organic materials to bring nature inside and feel at home. The mud wall, made in collaboration with architect and gardener Joy Sfeir, celebrates traditional Arabic house building techniques made out of natural soil. An unfinished space that is a continuous work in progress to invite artists, designers, craftspeople and communities to inhabit it.
